All Natural Migraine Pain Relief

How I overcame the Pain of Migraine

I started getting migraines in the late fall of 2013. Sometimes lasting for up to 4 days without any relief.
I would retreat to a dark quiet room and remain as still as possible. Over the counter medications would put barely a dent in the pain.
When they started to come on I could feel the right side of my head back about 2 inches behind my right eye, slowly building up to unbearable level of pain. It felt like someone was taking a crowbar to my skull and prying it open, then driving railroad spikes into my head, my eyes are light sensitive anyway but this made them worse, indoor fluorescent lights were the worst . I am extremely sensitive to sounds, cold weather, and chemical smells. When the migraines came on it amplifies all these senses. Making interaction with other people completely unbearable.
The main trigger for the migraines seemed to be the cold weather, as the months progressed into Winter, the migraines became more severe, and intense. They would come on stronger, faster and stay longer.
My Dr.  gave me 2 heavy pain medications. which brought the pain level from an 8 or 9 (on the 1-10 pain scale) down to a 2 or 3 . The drugs made me sooooo drowsy and dizzy, I felt like a zombie , but would lessen the severity of the Migraines enough to where it was bearable. I still spent most of time in bed , I had traded the pain for that drugged out dopiness.
This continued throughout Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, as the weather warmed up the severity of the Migraines lessened. By the time May rolled into full swing I maybe had 1 migraine that month....
I love Summer!!! No Migraines.... until late fall again 2013, the Migraines started coming on again. This time I had my eyes checked and got a set of rose tinted glasses to wear indoors to block out every color of light except the rose color. This helped with the bright indoor lights , and a slight reduction in the amount of Migraines per month...  but did nothing else for the prevention, so on the drugs I  remained zombified with the for relief...
Enter Essential Oils : In Dec of 2013 my whole family became quite ill all at the same time, Bronchitis,
Pneumonia, Bacterial infections, Sinus infections it was terrible! None of us had ever had these illnesses much less all at the same time. My wife was hospitalized with Pneumonia for almost a week. I knew that the oils were anti-bacterial, anti-viral, stress reducing etc. so I got several singles, a few blends and started applying them to my wife and kids feet...
Here are the oils I used.
2-Immu-Power
4-Peppermint, Lemon, Lavender, Thieves, Eucalyptus Radiata + Globulus.
Within 1 week we were all making improvements.... I hadn't had any Migraines amid all that stress and winter cold + snow.
2 weeks later still pain Free
  3 weeks later Pain Free
6 weeks later still Pain Free...YAY!!!
Its like getting out of Pain Prison!!!

and how to purchase links.

Know Your Headaches

When you feel pain coming on in any region of your head, you’re likely dealing with a headache. However, different types of headaches produce different symptoms. How can you tell them apart? Headaches are often distinguished by their cause.

Primary Patterns

Headaches are generally classified into two main types: primary headaches and secondary headaches. A migrainewhich is a disabling, recurring headache that frequently occurs only on one side of the head and often results in other symptoms, is one type of primary headache. Other primary headaches include cluster and tension headaches. Tension-type headaches are the most common headache, and are often experienced as mild, dull pressure without other accompanying symptoms. Cluster headaches, which are less common than migraines or tension headaches, usually bring severe pain (sometimes described as “stabbing” pain) behind one eye, and may be accompanied by redness and nasal congestion.

What is Migraine?
Plenty of people get  headaches, but they aren’t migraines though they may be labeled as such. Migraine is awful, as any sufferer will tell you, and unless you suffer from it, it’s hard to grasp how it’s different to an ordinary headache.

There are some outstanding features that distinguish migraine from the other headaches:

  • More common in females – often associated with menstrual cycle
  • Headaches often have an aura – a warning of some sort in the 2-3 days beforehand
  • Sensory effects  - greater sensitivity to noise, light, smells and taste
  • Visual disturbance – holes in vision, jagged lights around things even when eyes are closed
  • May last up to three days
  • Nausea, vomiting, irritability.
  • Pain – may be mild through  severe to excruciating

Who Gets Migraine?

Absolutely anyone can suffer from it regardless of culture, age or class. Under thirteen years of age and over seventy, about the same numbers of males and females are prone to suffer, but in the years in between, women  are hugely more affected.

Through history, many well-known people have been sufferers: Elvis, Elle McPherson, Van Gogh and Freud to name just a few.  Statistics indicate that around 10% of the world’s population suffer from this debilitating condition.

What Causes Migraine?

This is the big question, and there are hundreds of theories, none of which holds good for everyone. It seems that individuals have different triggers, and this makes blanket treatment complicated. Lifestyle, Stress, sleep disturbance, food sensitivity and hormone fluctuations , poor diet , too much caffeine and sugar/sugar substitutes are frequently linked with the condition,  but what seems to be the trigger one time, doesn’t  prove to be the cause next time.
When the pain is localized on one side of the brain usually the right side, behind the eye, can be an indication that you are suffering from a migraine. Other classes of pain can include cluster headaches, which seem to move around from one spot to the next and come on with intensity then subside then appear again in another spot. Either way they can be extremely debilitating .

Migraine Treatment

Almost every modality offers something to help. It is very difficult to stop a migraine once it is established, and all you can do is find something to relieve the pain and the nausea, and let it run its course. Retreating to a dark , quiet room with a diffuser running essential oils designed for pain relief has been most beneficial for many.

With a Dr's prescription+ Dr visit and copay, trip to a noisy Dr's office, waiting to be seen, there are many pain relieving drugs, that come with many side effects, i.e. dizziness, drowsiness, brain fog, numbness, feeling like a zombie. None of these drugs address the prevention or the cause of migraine headaches.

Many people find they can’t tolerate being touched, and often they can’t cope with smells, even ones that they normally find pleasant.  So most therapies focus on prevention.

Essential oils work well to improve mental and physical relaxation. You can incorporate them into your own life with baths, self-massage and diffusers.  Regular professional treatments from an aromatherapist could have a big impact on the number or severity of your migraines since she can choose appropriate essential oils for your particular needs.  But however you use them, essential oils will make a very pleasant difference to the quality of your life.
